This program is designed to introduce the designer or manager to the process of fiber optic network design and the implementation of that design in a real-world project. This program is not intended to be an entry level program. Students should have the IMSA/FOA Certified Fiber Optics Technician certification OR experience in fiber plant installation and testing knowledge.
Before any fiber optic project is started, it is necessary to know what communications systems or networks will be needed by the user and which locations the cable plant will connect. With that information, the designer can begin investigating what communications equipment will be necessary and the routing of the link, deciding what installation type and components like cable and hardware are appropriate and what processes will be used for the installation.
Managers have responsibility for the network overall, including the design, installation and operation. They must approve the design, oversee the paperwork that defines the network, obtain inputs from installers or contractors for design and pricing, let contracts, oversee the installation, approve the installation and operate the system. Managers must also be prepared for network restoration planning and, if necessary, the restoration itself.
The sessions for this program are spaced out over 6 to 8 weeks to allow students to complete their assignments with the first two sessions being virtual attendance only and the final session being in-person only.
This program is not intended to be an entry level program. Students should have the IMSA/FOA Certified Fiber Optics Technician certification OR experience in fiber plant installation and testing knowledge.
1) Must be a Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or experienced in fiber plant installation and testing knowledge. If a student does not have the CFOT certification, please let us know!
2) Must purchase the FOA Design Book (red cover) from Amazon
3) The certification course is a hybrid program consisting of two online meetings and one in person meeting (Port Orange, FL).
4) Any prerequisite programs must be completed prior to live online meetings.
6) Must complete a design presentation to the class.
Because this program requires a strong Fiber Optics foundation, we will be offering our Fiber 101 program one day before the final session. The Fiber 101 program will review pertinent information that you will see on your final exam.
If you do not have a current IMSA/FOA Certified Fiber Optics Technician certification OR if you have limited Fiber Optics experience, WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO ATTEND THIS PROGRAM.
